And I certainly hope that it will very soon BE a post-pandemic world. But this is a safe space, so let\u2019s not get into the crazy-making thoughts about the pandemic okay?\u00a0\ud83d\ude04<br>\u00a0<br>Because most \u2013 if not all! \u2013 of us are pretty done. Amy Cuddy (the Harvard professor whose\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jnhcoaching.us17.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=1edbcf2879558e7cdb5ac6676&amp;id=4c611a44ba&amp;e=56e0a5cca5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Power Pose TED Talk<\/a>\u00a0has been viewed over 63 million times and even got a shout-out in Ted Lasso this season!) calls this Pandemic Flux Syndrome. Not only are we tired of the pandemic, we\u2019re tired of the back and forth about it too.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:#704c9f\" class=\"has-inline-color\">DARE TO LEAD<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cuddy was interviewed by Bren\u00e9 Brown on her\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jnhcoaching.us17.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=1edbcf2879558e7cdb5ac6676&amp;id=27b3254bab&amp;e=56e0a5cca5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dare to Lead podcast<\/a>\u00a0a while back, talking about how much anxiety working through this collective, constant pandemic flux is causing, and also how important it is as leaders to empower people to have agency over their work situations. It was a surprisingly fun podcast to listen to \u2013 Brown and Cuddy are friends IRL! So it was a warm and engaging conversation, with lots of valuable leadership nuggets thrown in.<br>\u00a0<br>I haven\u2019t actually followed Bren\u00e9 Brown much, but I really enjoyed the podcast and I also found Brown to have a really dynamic voice and interview style. And so much of what she said resonated with me that I thought I would try listening to one of her leadership books as an audiobook. And she did not disappoint!<br>\u00a0<br><a href=\"https:\/\/jnhcoaching.us17.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=1edbcf2879558e7cdb5ac6676&amp;id=77ceefed9e&amp;e=56e0a5cca5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dare to Lead<\/a>\u00a0was a fantastic read. I\u2019m declaring it one of my Top 3 leadership reads of 2021. (And yes, there are more than 3 to choose from!\u00a0\ud83d\ude02).\u00a0Authenticity, Courage, Vulnerability, Values \u2013 Brown discusses how impactful and essential these all are for true leadership. But she doesn\u2019t just tell the reader that they\u2019re necessary. She first backs up her research with a lot of study and relevant examples. And then \u2013 and this is what really put the book into the Top 3 for me \u2013\u00a0<strong>she details what the behaviours are that make these characteristics happen<\/strong>. It isn\u2019t a book about the\u00a0<em>theory<\/em>\u00a0of leadership. It\u2019s a practical and highly applicable toolkit for leadership skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:#704c9f\" class=\"has-inline-color\">THE FUTURE OF LEADERSHIP<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the Harvard Business Review declared recently in an insightful article on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/jnhcoaching.us17.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=1edbcf2879558e7cdb5ac6676&amp;id=e0ab7c397f&amp;e=56e0a5cca5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">effective leadership<\/a>&nbsp;going forward:<br><br>\u201c<em>The most effective leadership today isn\u2019t about technical expertise and having all the answers. It\u2019s about being human, showing vulnerability, connecting with people, and being able to unleash their potential<\/em>.\u201d<br><br>It\u2019s about daring to be human, and in doing so, daring to lead.<br><br>I was asked this week if I was seeing any differences in leadership taking place now, compared to both pre-pandemic and prior to that. The answer is a resounding yes! The two major differences I\u2019m seeing are this shift to a more soft-skills-centered leadership style, and to more holistic and authentic leadership.&nbsp;<br><br>And my feeling is reiterated in this&nbsp;episode of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/jnhcoaching.us17.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=1edbcf2879558e7cdb5ac6676&amp;id=5cb974d8a6&amp;e=56e0a5cca5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">What\u2019s Essential podcast<\/a>&nbsp;on the Future of Leadership which was also a good listen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\ud83c\udde9\ud83c\uddea<\/strong>&nbsp; Eine Freundin hat mir diesen&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/jnhcoaching.us17.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=1edbcf2879558e7cdb5ac6676&amp;id=5362018a60&amp;e=56e0a5cca5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Podcast \u00fcber Wertsch\u00e4tzung<\/a>&nbsp;empfohlen und er hat mir sehr gut gefallen. Obwohl ich die Stimme des Interviewpartners etwas rau fand, war das Thema faszinierend! Wertsch\u00e4tzung und Anerkennung &#8211; und wie wichtig sie f\u00fcr unsere Beziehungen sind. Dieser Perspektivwechsel von Beurteilung zur Neugier und zum Mitgef\u00fchl ist ein echter Bewusstseinswandel, den ich derzeit sowohl im privaten als auch im beruflichen Bereich beobachte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:#704c9f\" class=\"has-inline-color\">WHAT I&#8217;M READING<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the summer, I read\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jnhcoaching.us17.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=1edbcf2879558e7cdb5ac6676&amp;id=4d4e6fb144&amp;e=56e0a5cca5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Thursday Murder Club<\/a>\u00a0after hearing so many good things about it. I was delighted to discover that the author had planned for this to be a series, and that the second (of a planned 4-book series \u2013 is that a quadrilogy??\u00a0\ud83e\udd14)\u00a0would be out in September. I ordered the second book,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jnhcoaching.us17.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=1edbcf2879558e7cdb5ac6676&amp;id=1b6026d562&amp;e=56e0a5cca5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Man Who Died Twice<\/a>,\u00a0and devoured it over two days last weekend. Such a great story! Even better than the first one. I literally laughed out loud multiple times, something books rarely make me do. It was funny and entertaining and a really good mystery story. Highly recommend!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><span style=\"color:#704c9f\" class=\"has-inline-color\">WHAT I&#8217;M LISTENING TO<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I had lots of listening time in the car this past week as I was on a business trip to Sweden. I binged an entire podcast on the way there, and one on the way back!\u00a0\ud83d\ude00\u00a0Thanks so much for your recommendations \u2013 they came in so handy!<br>\u00a0<br>I\u2019m definitely on a True Crime jag at the moment, so it was true crime podcast bingeing last week. First up was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jnhcoaching.us17.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=1edbcf2879558e7cdb5ac6676&amp;id=4445ad2664&amp;e=56e0a5cca5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Do You Know Mordechai?<\/a>, a podcast done by a Toronto journalist about a con man who dupes multiple women into dating him. Very interesting, particularly as it also included an episode where the con man himself is interviewed!<br>\u00a0<br>Then on the drive back from Sweden, I listened to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jnhcoaching.us17.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=1edbcf2879558e7cdb5ac6676&amp;id=936d76d076&amp;e=56e0a5cca5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">West Cork<\/a>. I was so engrossed in the story that the 6-hour drive just flew by! The story was told from multiple perspectives and it was hard not to think one way and then the other about the likely culprit of this murder. So well researched and beautifully done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks so much for all the wonderful feedback on the previous issue of the newsletter. Part 1 seemed to resonate with a lot of you!
