It would seem I\u2019m not alone in these musings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Interestingly, having already landed on the theme, I then read Adam Grant\u2019s newsletter, Granted<\/a>, where he also touched on inspiration and how much it is about connecting the dots:<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n For me, connecting the dots is what gives me inspiration. And what inspires me to seek out new dots as well! \ud83d\ude0a<\/p>\n\n\n\n This also resonates deeply with me in terms of leadership. As leaders, we\u2019re no longer just gatekeepers of knowledge\u2014we\u2019re responsible for seeing the bigger picture, for connecting the dots in ways that inspire ourselves – and others – to act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n PERSONAL GROWTH…<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n This theme has been popping up everywhere for me lately, including in James Clear\u2019s recent 3-2-1 Newsletter<\/a>, where he shared this gem:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cCompete externally and you compare. I love that message.\u00a0It\u2019s a reminder that real growth comes from within, not from trying to measure up to others.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n And following that thought a bit further, playwright Eugene Ionesco furthers this idea with his quote:<\/p>\n\n\n\n “It is not the answer that enlightens, but the question<\/em>.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n So much of coaching is about asking powerful questions, so this really resonates with me!\u00a0When we challenge ourselves with powerful questions, we spark that internal competition\u2014the kind that leads to genuine improvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n WE ARE ALL INDIVIDUALS…<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Not all of us are motivated by the same things either.\u00a0That\u2019s something I found really interesting in a recent episode of\u00a0The One You Feed podcast<\/a>. When asked about bad advice that\u2019s widely accepted, the guest shared:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cEveryone should meditate.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n At first glance, it might seem like great advice, but it doesn\u2019t work for everyone. (Me for example! Try as I might.) As Kristen Meinzer & Jolenta Greenberg pointed out, just because something works for one person doesn\u2019t mean it\u2019s a universal solution. We\u2019re all wired differently. Some people thrive on meditation, while others may find their sense of peace or motivation in completely different ways. \u201cWe all have different things that can help us feel happy<\/em>\u201d the authors point out. HOPE…<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n One thing that does inspire most of us is having hope. Listening to world renowned anthropologist Jane Goodall discussing hope with Julia Louis-Dreyfuss on her brilliant podcast series\u00a0Wiser Than Me<\/a>\u00a0was such a joy. Goodall is 90 years old and still incredibly erudite, articulate, and full of hope and joy.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n She talks about how important hope and love are. That it is all about the heart. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe key is when you meet people like that [with opposing values and views] it\u2019s precious little use arguing with them because they\u2019re not going to listen is you\u2019ve got to reach the heart. And how do you reach the heart? With stories.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n That\u2019s so powerful. Goodall believes that by using both our hearts and our heads, we can achieve our true human potential. And the research agrees with her \u2014hope, it turns out, creates more resilience than mindfulness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Maybe love really is the answer after all?\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n WHAT I’M READING…<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n As anyone who\u2019s been following me for a while knows, I am an avid reader! And I have read a number of books since the last newsletter, but nothing really all that good, to be honest. I read\u00a0A Court of Thorns and Roses<\/a>, since SO many people were raving about it online, but it was a \u201cmeh\u201d at best for me. Also read the new Richard Osman novel,\u00a0We Solve Murders<\/a>, a new detective series\u00a0not\u00a0based around\u00a0The Thursday Murder Club<\/a>. It was okay. I enjoyed it well enough to finish it, but it was not nearly as engaging as reading about Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim, Ron and the gang!!\u00a0 [A personal appeal from me: despite the links, please do support your local book store or library if you can!<\/em>]<\/p>\n\n\n\n WHAT I’M LISTENING TO…<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Gripping novels might have been few and far between, however I\u00a0have<\/strong>\u00a0enjoyed a few wonderful audiobooks. Good stories made excellent through their magnificent narration!\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n Last Monday was Canadian Thanksgiving. I think the theme of inspiration fits really nicely with giving thanks. Inspiration is really unique. What motivates us is dependent on the individual. Figuring out what those things are is really the key!

So I\u2019m really hoping for recommendations from YOU this month! I don\u2019t have an outstanding read of 2024 yet!! I\u2019ve read a number of good books, but nothing that feels like it should be atop my Best of 2024 Fiction list.\u00a0Have you read a fab book this year? What delights of fiction am I missing??<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Clare Mackintosh\u2019s\u00a0A Game of Lies<\/a>, read by Chloe Angharad Davies, was fabulous as the two main characters are from either side of the English\/Welsh border and Davies voices DC Ffion Morgan in the character\u2019s Welsh accent, and her counterpart DCI Leo Brady in the Cheshire accent local to him. I absolutely loved the voices, the accents, and also the story. (Mackintosh\u2019s\u00a0I Let You Go<\/a>\u00a0remains one of my favourite thrillers of all time.)
My daughter\u2019s favourite author, Karen M. McManus, released her newest YA novel,\u00a0Such Charming Liars<\/a>, recently and I got it as an audiobook, primarily because the book had two main characters, and therefore the audiobook two narrators, something I really enjoy. The story was really good and was a fun listen as well!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/jnhcoaching.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/GAME-LIES.jpg\")
